Who we are
We're a small family office based in central Wellington, with the mission to fund a better future. We allocate capital across aligned philanthropic opportunities and an investment portfolio spanning property, local businesses, and venture capital investments. We are particularly interested in investing in early-stage startups and venture capital funds, with a focus on female founders and positive impact.
We are supporters of numerous causes globally (emergency relief and gender equity), nationally (democracy and the arts), and locally (poverty and the city's arts and culture scene). Additionally, we have a small portfolio of tenanted properties in the Te Whanganui-a-Tara region.
We believe good business and a good life are both built on genuine relationships that work well for everyone involved. That shows up in how we treat our tenants, our contractors, our advisers and each other.
It's a close, collaborative team. You'll be based in our office and you'll report directly to the two principals.
The opportunity
We're looking for an experienced, independent and capable Executive / Personal Assistant to become a genuinely trusted member of our small team.
This is a broad, varied role covering the practical side of our lives: the rental properties, property purchases and sales, improvements and maintenance, travel, general research, regular reporting and compliance, filing, accounts payable, calendars and the countless small things that come with running a busy small office alongside a diverse portfolio of interests. Some of it is predictable (bills, renewals, paperwork), some of it reactive (a broken window or last-minute travel), some of it is problem solving or long-term projects.
You won't need to have every answer on day one. What matters far more is your ability to see the full picture, take the initiative to research options and bring back a recommendation, and follow through without being chased.
You'll typically be: - Managing a shared admin inbox - bills, renewals, compliance and correspondence
- Coordinating our local rental properties: tenancy documentation, renewals, contractors and maintenance and keeping records current
- Planning, booking and tracking travel
- Managing our schedules, anticipating conflicts and preparing ahead
- Handling financial admin and keeping everything accountant-ready
- Keeping our Dropbox filing tidy and easy to search
- Coordinating electronic document signing
- Finding and supplying information from our archives or elsewhere
- Sourcing services, products, and ordering consumables
- Helping with analysis of business projects and opportunities
- Supporting personal errands, gifts, bookings and family logistics
- Lending a hand with our governance, arts, community and philanthropic commitments; a working understanding of, or interest in, the arts would be a nice-to-have, not a requirement
You'll love this role if you: - Are a self-starter who takes initiative rather than waiting to be asked
- Notice what needs doing before it becomes urgent, and get ahead of it
- Have the ability to triage tasks appropriately and independently
- Are thorough; you dig into the detail and still see the whole picture, not just the task in front of you
- Bring solutions and options, not just questions
- Feel confident enough to clarify or push back respectfully rather than guess
- Stay calm and practical when plans change at the last minute
- Are collaborative; relationships matter to us, in the office and beyond
- Are versatile and genuinely happy to roll your sleeves up, whatever the task
- Have strong computer skills and pickup new tools quickly; we use Apple products
- Ideally, have some experience living or working outside New Zealand
- Are looking to build a long-term relationship with an employer
- Are discreet and trustworthy with confidential financial and personal information
You will dislike this role if: - Status and position descriptions really matter to you. We value all our staff and can’t offer a traditional career trajectory
- You prefer a tightly defined job description and the same tasks every day
- You would prefer to be told what to do than work out what needs doing
- You find it hard to switch between a leaking tap and a board paper in the same hour
What we can offer you: - A trusted, long-term role with real variety and genuine ownership
- Working directly with two principals, plus a small, easy-going team
- Four days a week, with flexibility on how those days and hours are structured
- A beautiful historic office in central Wellington
- Competitive salary, plus phone, laptop and business expenses covered
- Occasional travel in Aotearoa New Zealand and to Australia
- A genuinely collaborative, kind and values-led environment
We value diversity and welcome applicants from all backgrounds. What matters most to us is your initiative, your judgement and your commitment to doing things well.
