B1G1 was originally founded in 2007 when a group of small business owners got together with the realisation that if giving was made easy, more businesses would want to give back. Right now, over 70% of giving comes from individuals – imagine the impact we could make on our world if businesses gave as a whole!
B1G1 is designed so that any business and its employees can choose how to donate and what causes to donate to. For example, in the Kin team, when we place a candidate in a role, we give 100 days of access to life-saving clean water to families in need around the world.
There are so many deserving causes on the B1G1 platform. Our team have chosen which causes have meaning to them and we give regularly based on business milestones achieved each month.
We want to share the B1G1 story, including how easy it is to give because we would love more businesses to join us and make an impact. We’ll happily share our story of how this programme works at Kin, the positive impact it has on our culture and how easy it is to set up B1G1 in your organisation - just ask.
We’re proud to say that we are making a difference to those who need it most, in New Zealand and around the world! We are committed to building a business that matters.
Here are a selection of causes that mean something to us:
For every new client referral, we donate $200 to our friends at Garden to Table.
We love the Garden to Table dream: for every child in Aotearoa New Zealand to have the opportunity and resources to grow and share their own fresh kai as part of daily life.
The positive impact from this incredible programme radiates far beyond the school gate. It naturally weaves its way into whānau, the wider community, and the planet, enabling a more sustainable, equitable and climate-friendly future – we’re 100% on board with this!

Kin is quietly proud to be the first recruitment company in New Zealand to certify as a B Corp. We’re part of a growing movement both here and around the world, of businesses that are striving to balance profit with purpose.
So what does that mean exactly?
It means that we have been independently assessed and audited and meet “high standards of social and environmental performance, accountability and transparency”. It means that an independent global body has awarded us a certification that represents the very real work we put in to upholding our values.
What is a B Corp?
Businesses in the B Corp network are forces for good, not just for profit. They’re redefining what it means to be successful. This means deeply considering worker wellbeing, environmental impact, transparency, inclusivity and sustainability. To be B Corp certified, businesses must earn a B Impact score of greater than 80, which is given after a rigorous screening process. Kin’s score was 112.5, something we are incredibly humbled to have achieved.
Why is being a B Corp important to us?
The Kin team are so proud to join other Kiwi greats like Ethique, Allbirds, and Sharesies in this growing movement, along with some of our incredible clients like Method, Tax Traders, and Brightly. While many of our practices were already in place, Kin is a much better business because of the accreditation process. The B Corp framework has given us a north star to anchor our values and business practices on. And this is just the beginning. The B Corp framework is designed for continuous improvement and we’re here for the long haul.
