About OBO
OBO have spent over 30 years building a world-leading market position and a renowned brand.  Around 80% of the world’s field hockey goalkeepers use OBO. From our headquarters in Palmerston North, we design and create products that are trusted at every level of the game, and used in over 74 countries worldwide. Our purpose is to create good sh*t that empowers hockey goalkeepers to feel and be amazing. We aspire to be world-renowned for our game changing products, our inspiring brand experience, and our absolute commitment to empowering our people and players to continually amaze.  We aim to be better, including for our environment and community, before we aspire to be much bigger.

We’re now looking for a marketer who can help us maintain and strengthen our connection with goalkeepers, distributors, and markets globally.

The Role
This is a broad, hands-on marketing role with real ownership. You’ll help drive how OBO communicates its brand and products globally, with a particular focus on supporting our distributor network and lifting the quality, consistency, and effectiveness of our marketing.  Based in Palmerston North, you’ll work closely with our leadership team, contribute to marketing direction, and turn ideas into strong execution. This is a role for someone who can think, create, prioritise, and get things moving.  You’ll also play an important role in how we evolve our marketing capability, including redevelopment of our website, stronger product communication, and thoughtful use of AI and emerging tools in ways that feel authentic to our brand and customers.

What You’ll Be Doing:
You’ll turn our marketing strategy and brand direction into impactful tactics, channel partner collaborations, product launches and campaign calendars.  Working in collaboration with channel partners in major hockey playing markets, you’ll generate and execute high-quality on-brand content and assets. You’ll absorb our brand and learn to “speak OBO”, making it easy for our international partners to activate.  You’ll become a trusted member of our small team, freeing up our leaders to focus on strategy, people and operations.

Day to day you’ll:
  • Protect and strengthen OBO’s brand within our framework, delivering with consistency and flair
  • Develop and publish content and campaigns across social, EDMs, website and product launches, and support channel partners to adapt and localise
  • Produce distributor tools and kits that translate technical product detail into compelling marketing content
  • Support player sponsorship initiatives, events, webinars and factory sales with on-brand materials and execution
  • Coordinate with Operations on supply timing to maintain website and EDM hygiene
  • Maintain the asset library and enable channel partners to self-serve
  • Track and report marketing metrics, providing insights to inform future plans and campaigns
  • Support key projects including website redevelopment and brand communication improvements
  • Identify smarter ways to communicate and build trust across audiences, from goalkeepers to schools and parents
  • Explore and apply AI and new marketing tools in practical, brand-appropriate ways

What You’ll Bring
You’re an experienced marketer with a product and brand background. You’re collaborative, creative, innovative and have a high bar for quality. You know how to take ownership and have the initiative and confidence to drive work forward. You’ll also be an analytical and strategic thinker, someone who prioritises well, spots opportunities, and provides good insights.

You’ll likely bring:
  • At least 3-5 years’ marketing experience with strong product marketing and brand capability
  • Hands on experience with digital and social media marketing, including performance analytics
  • Experience collaborating with and enabling channel partners and distributors across multiple regions
  • A strong ability to absorb and interpret brand and apply clear brand guidelines
  • Strong writing skills, with demonstrated experience in producing content with a clean, energetic brand voice
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to connect authentically with different audiences
  • Basic Adobe Creative Suite capability and confidence in briefing design and creative suppliers
  • Curiosity about AI and emerging tools, with good judgment about how and when to use them
  • A practical, organised, transparent and collaborative working style
  • An appreciation for sport, performance, and what makes passionate niche communities tick
