About us The RNZRSA is one of New Zealand’s oldest veteran support organisations. We are a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to improving the wellbeing of veterans and their whānau across Aotearoa New Zealand. We care deeply about our veteran community and work hard to deliver support services that meet their needs and create positive outcomes.
New Zealand is home to around 140,000 veterans, with approximately 65,000 having served since 1990. Remembrance, Support and Advocacy sit at the heart of everything we do. Our support network has been quietly focused on its mahi, aware of the scale of the task and confident in our ability to meet it. We are committed to ensuring our organisation continues to adapt to the changing needs of today’s veterans.
The team you are joining is a small, Wellington-based National Office. We are united by our commitment to the cause, rolling up our sleeves to deliver responsive, innovative and compassionate support and advocacy. Just as importantly, we look after one another and always have each other’s backs.
About the Role We are seeking an experienced and hands-on fundraiser to help grow and strengthen our impact. This is a newly created position focused on shaping and strengthening a more diversified fundraising programme. You’ll take a practical, results-focussed approach - developing clear priorities, delivering key initiatives and strengthening the systems and relationships that support sustainable fundraising. With some established grants and corporate relationships already in place, and a membership of close to 70,000, there’s great scope and potential to build on these foundations and expand our fundraising reach.
You could be a senior fundraiser who is looking for a broad hands-on role with plenty of ownership, or someone looking to step up and take the lead on both strategy and delivery.
This is a part-time (24 hours per week), 12-month fixed term role, with potential to extend. While our preference is for this role to be based alongside our national office team in Wellington, we’re also open to candidates elsewhere in New Zealand who can work remotely.
Key Responsibilities - Develop and begin implementing a practical diversified fundraising strategy
- Identify and progress high-value funding opportunities, with an initial focus on grants and corporate sponsorship
- Prepare high quality funding applications and proposals
- Grow and steward relationships with donors, sponsors, and partners
- Work closely with the Communications and Marketing Manager to deliver our annual Poppy Appeal and support compelling donor communications
- Build and improve fundraising systems, processes, and tools in line with best practice
- Play an active role in contributing to a small, collaborative national office team
About you You are an experienced fundraiser who enjoys both strategy and delivery, and thrives in a role where you can take ownership, turn ideas into action, and make a meaningful difference. You have a proactive, pragmatic approach and are confident engaging with donors in an authentic and purposeful way. You also bring:
- At least three years’ experience and a proven track record in fundraising, ideally including grants and corporate sponsorship.
- Knowledge of fundraising best practice and experience developing or contributing to fundraising strategy
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage a diverse range of donors and sponsors
- The ability to design and deliver compelling donor journeys that build connection, trust, and long-term support
- Strong writing skills, including the ability to craft persuasive funding applications and impactful donor communications
- Well-developed organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- A deep commitment to supporting veterans and their whānau
- Experience in a member-based or not-for-profit organisation (desirable)
- Experience with the Grants Expertise Management System (GEMS) (desirable)
Experience in the military or veteran support sector would be advantageous but is not essential.
