About us The RNZRSA is one of New Zealand’s oldest veteran support organisations. About the Role We are seeking an experienced and proactive Operations and Membership Manager to play a key role as a member of the Senior Leadership Team. Reporting directly to the CEO, this is a newly created position designed to strengthen organisational effectiveness and provide critical support to the CEO.
This role has three primary areas of focus: governance and board support, financial management support, and membership management. In addition, you’ll ensure effective oversight and coordination across human resources, IT, and asset and facilities management.
This is a hands-on leadership role suited to someone who thrives in a small team environment, enjoys variety, and is motivated to implement systems and processes that enable an organisation to run smoothly and sustainably.
Key Responsibilities - Provide high-quality governance support to the Board and subcommittees, including preparing agendas, collating papers, taking minutes, and managing the annual workplan and calendar.
- Coordinate the annual budgeting and audit processes in partnership with the CEO and Audit & Risk Committee.
- Review and interpret financial reports prepared by the external accountant, providing concise, insight-driven summaries to the CEO.
- Lead and support one direct report in finance.
- Deliver and enhance a positive membership experience, ensuring timely engagement, communication, and stakeholder connection.
- Oversee and optimise the membership engagement platform, ensuring appropriate access, maintenance, and performance oversight.
- Provide first-line HR support, ensuring strong onboarding and offboarding processes, effective systems, compliance, and support to the People & Culture Committee.
- Provide first line IT support and liaise with external IT providers to ensure effective, secure operational systems.
- Manage asset and facilities matters, including liaison with the body corporate.
- Provide executive and operational support to the CEO and Senior Leadership Team as required.
The Ideal Candidate You are an experienced operations professional who is confident working autonomously, takes initiative, and is proactive in identifying solutions to improve systems and processes. You’re professional, reliable and resilient with sound judgement, a forward-thinking, solution-focused approach to challenges and comfortable working with ambiguity.
You also bring:
- Proven experience in an operations, governance, or senior coordination role, ideally with some leadership experience.
- Experience in a member-based or not-for-profit organisation (desirable).
- Strong financial acumen, including budgeting, forecasting, and audit coordination and experience working with financial systems (Xero or similar).
- Confidence using MS Office 365, BoardPro, and membership engagement platforms
- Knowledge of HR best practice and experience supporting people processes.
- Well-developed organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills along with strong interpersonal and relationship-building capabilities.
- A deep commitment to supporting veterans and their whānau
Experience in the military or veteran support sector would be advantageous but is not essential.
