Te tūranga | The role Wheako Pōneke Experience Wellington is looking for an organised and customer focused individual to join our team in the role of Kaituitui Ahumoni | Finance Officer. This is a part time position, working 20 hours per week across 4-5 days.
Te āhua o te tūranga | The nature of the position As a member of our Finance team, you will be at the heart of all financial processes and accounting procedures, reporting directly to the Kaiārahi Ahumoni | Manager, Finance, and working closely with the Kaiāwhina Kaikaute Ahumoni | Assistant Accountant. You’ll be joining our Corporate & Learning group based in the Wellington CBD, working across our sites and teams to deliver sound financial advice and process implementation that aligns with our strategic priorities and accounting best practice.
Your core tasks will include managing Accounts Payable, answering finance queries, handling weekly pay runs, the contractor payroll run, credit card reconciliations, and managing and processing purchase orders. Additionally, you will assist with Accounts Receivable and Bank reconciliation functions, participate in month-end reporting, and support the year-end audit process.
You’ll have a personable and proactive approach with internal stakeholders to ensure timely completion of monthly finance tasks. You’ll also be confident in providing training for Xero, Approval Max and purchase order management. With your initiative and problem-solving skills, you’ll identify and support innovation and resolve process issues quickly and effectively.

- Experience with Xero and ApprovalMax or similar accounting systems.
- Proficient in Excel
- Sound understanding of accounting standards and controls.
- Highly detail focused with proficient accuracy in financial and other processes.
- Excellent communication and team skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Appetite and experience in improving financial performance through a range of approaches.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks.
- A high level of initiative with strong planning, coordination, and organisational abilities.
- Experience in the NFP sector would be an advantage.
