About the Zero Waste Tāmaki Makaurau Trust
The Zero Waste Tāmaki Makaurau Trust is a newly established charitable organisation committed to supporting Community Recycling Centres and Resource Recovery Parks across Auckland. Our mission is to maximise landfill diversion through reuse and recycling, create local jobs, and foster a thriving circular economy while incorporating Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles into our work. We distribute funding, foster collaboration, and provide governance support to ensure the sector is well-resourced and future-focused.
About the role - Strong, independent leadership of our newly formed Board, ensuring Trustees are well informed and have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform at their best.
- Facilitate the development and implementation of strategic direction and objectives, aligned with the Trust’s kaupapa.
- Foster strong relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including iwi, council, government agencies and community partners.
- Oversight of financial sustainability and risk management, ensuring compliance and best practice.
- Chair meetings effectively, encouraging inclusivity, sound decision-making and collective responsibility
About You - An experienced governance leader with prior board chairing or senior governance experience in the not for profit, public, or private sectors.
- A strategic thinker who can guide the Trust's long-term vision while ensuring strong financial and risk oversight.
- A skilled relationship builder who confidently engages with diverse stakeholders.
- Passionate about sustainability. While direct sector experience is not required, a commitment to our broader kaupapa is essential.
- Grounded in Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles and able to embed Te Ao Māori perspectives into governance and decision making.
