Wheako Pōneke Experience Wellington has an exciting opportunity for a passionate HR practitioner to join our team as a Kaiārahi Pūmanawa Tāngata | People & Culture Manager.  Reporting to the Ringatohu Rangatopu | Chief Operating Officer, you’ll be part of the Wider Leadership Team.  You’ll provide oversight on employment matters and lead the development and implementation of our strategic people plan and approach. You’ll lead and develop our smart and capable Kaitohutohu me Kairuruku Pūmanawa Tāngata | P&C Advisor and Coordinator across the full breadth of HR, people and capability services.  You’ll ensure all HR processes, systems and initiatives are run smoothly and manage risk to our organisation, while enhancing organisational performance and culture and enabling the achievement of our strategic objectives.

This is a newly created permanent part-time position, working 20 hours per week across 4-5 days.  You’ll predominately be based in our Manners Street office but will regularly visit our people and attend hui across our six sites. There is some flexibility to work from home.   This is an exciting opportunity to be part of an incredibly varied GLAM sector organisation with a talented, passionate and diverse team. 
  
Day to day you’ll:
  • Oversee the P&C programme of mahi and provide leadership on key projects and initiatives.
  • Support and mentor the P&C team, consistently seeking and providing opportunities for them to develop their expertise.
  • Partner with ELT members, providing insightful and trusted advice on employment matters, trends, and opportunities for growth.
  • Manage and mitigate HR-related risks, ensuring processes are performed with a high degree of accuracy and compliance with good HR practice and employment law.
  • Coach and upskill the P&C team and people leaders in the organisation to confidently manage ER issues in a proactive and mana enhancing way.
  • Develop and refresh policies and processes, supporting the integration of Māori values, practices, and cultural perspectives into all P&C experiences.
  • Develop and foster relationships with peers in the GLAM sector and other CCO’s to share best practice and improve the way we do things.
We’re looking for a seasoned HR generalist practitioner with a passion for developing others.  You’ll be a driven, kind and empathetic leader with an honest, open, and flexible approach who operates seamlessly at both strategic and operational levels. You’ll bring:     
  • Proven experience as an HR Manager or in a senior HR role where you’ve led and managed a small team.
  • Expertise in employment relations, employment law, and organisational change.
  • Strong knowledge across the full suite of HR processes and best practices, with a track record of implementing successful people strategies.
  • Ability to manage and mitigate HR-related risk across the organisation.
  • Success with business partnering to drive employee engagement and a high-performance culture.
  • Outstanding communication and relationship management skills at all levels, with the ability to be a trusted advisor to managers and leaders.
  • Capability in te ao Māori, or a desire and willingness to learn
  • HRNZ Chartered Membership is desirable
