About us:
Volunteer Wellington Te Puna Tautoko is a community organisation that focuses on championing volunteering and building the capacity and capability of communities across the Wellington region.

Working with 340 community-based organisations, we connect them with diverse volunteers to help sustain vital community services and advance social impact. We provide advice, mentoring and professional development in the management of volunteers and equip community organisations to develop effective and inclusive volunteer programmes.

Volunteer Wellington Te Puna Tautoko operate from our central Wellington office, with branches in Porirua and the Hutt Valley. Our team serves diverse communities, and work in partnership with our members and other stakeholders, including funders. We are committed to upholding Te Tiriti o Waitangi through active partnership with tangata whenua and embedding tikanga Māori across our mahi, as we continue to build meaningful relationships with Māori communities.

We are seeking a General Manager to lead our team and oversee the strategy and operations of our organisation.
  
About the role:
The General Manager role is a key connector and will lead a passionate and dedicated team across three branches in the Wellington region. With support from our Board, and reporting to the Board Chair, this role is broad and will lead our strategic planning and reporting activities, as well as being deeply involved with our day-to-day operations.
  
Day to day, this role is responsible for:
  • Leading the development and implementation of our strategic plan with support from the Board
  • Overseeing and managing funding steams to maintain and increase the financial sustainability of the organisation
  • Leading and mentoring our passionate and dedicated team, fostering collaboration across the branches
  • Guiding and continuing our cultural journey, embedding the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi into our everyday work
  • Continuous improvement of our systems and processes, including digitisation where possible
  • Building strong relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders, and overseeing our marketing and communications
  • Managing our internal policies to ensure legal compliance  
This role is based at our Wellington CBD office and will travel regularly to our other branches in Porirua and the Hutt Valley.
  
About you:
You’ll be a natural leader with strong relationship building skills and an ability to engage with a wide range of people. You’ll ideally bring an understanding of, and passion for, the volunteer sector or proven experience in community development. As this is a varied role, we’re seeking someone who brings experience in leading or managing in the not-for-profit sector, along with a strategic mindset.
  
You’ll also bring:
  • Ideally 5 or more years as a leader in a community or volunteer sector organisation
  • Exceptional leadership skills with a collaborative approach and an ability to inspire others towards a strategic vision
  • A high level of cultural competence with a commitment to Te Tiriti and an ability to guide our organisation as we continue our cultural journey
  • Financial nous with experience managing multiple funding streams, budgets, forecasting, and making progress with limited resources
  • Problem solving skills, innovation, and an adaptable approach towards solving challenges
  • Familiarity with statutory and legal requirements relevant to not-for-profit organisations
