About us
Our vision at Barnardos is an Aotearoa where every child shines bright.  For over 60 years we have been shaping brighter futures together with tamariki and whānau in need.   Every day we work to make a lasting difference so they can thrive.  With our mahi across social services, early learning and advocacy for tamariki wellbeing, we’re there for the whole childhood journey and beyond.
We are Aotearoa’s largest children’s charity.  We’re an organisation with heart, guided by our principles and values in everything we do:
  • Kotahitanga – Unity
  • Māiatanga – Realise Potential
  • Mahi tōtika – Do the Right Things Well
  • Ata Whakarongo – Hear with Intent
  • Kaikōkiritanga – Progress with Purpose

The opportunity
Reporting to our new General Manager, Fundraising and Engagement, your focus will be to develop and implement strategies that maximise sustainable fundraising revenue and strengthen the Barnardos Aotearoa brand.  You’ll actively support collaboration and connection across the fundraising, communications, and marketing group and be a champion for improving the team’s understanding of our frontline services.

There’s plenty of opportunity to make your mark in this role.  We’re looking for someone who’ll bring fresh new ideas and a focus on continuous improvement and innovation.  You’ll be strengthening our existing programs in trusts, grants and bequests, while developing and seeking new opportunities in corporate partnerships, philanthropy, and major giving. You’ll streamline and enhance quality and efficiency of our processes to ensure growth and an exceptional donor, sponsor and partnership experience.

Day to day you’ll:
  • Develop and implement cost effective, sustainable and flexible fundraising strategies, plans and campaigns that drive income growth and achieve our strategic goals
  • Provide high quality expertise and advice to the executive leadership team that drives innovation while managing risk
  • Lead and coach your team to uplift capability and develop a positive and high performing team that delivers donor-centric and high-quality work
  • Build and model a culture of “one team” by actively contributing to group strategies and goals and by freely sharing information and insights with fundraising, marketing and communications colleagues
  • Build and maintain positive relationships internally and externally with stakeholders, corporate partners, major donors, and service providers
  • Drive strong lead generation and identification of new prospects across giving levels
  • Regularly review and report on effectiveness of fundraising activity and systems
  • Monitor, track and provide forecasting of fundraising revenue against targets
  • Show commitment to, and an understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and our Ngā Pou e Whā (Māori Strategy) in all that you do

About you:
You’ll be a proven and successful fundraiser with significant experience in strategy and delivery of fundraising activities, and broad networks across the corporate, not for profit and philanthropic sectors.

You're known as a strong and nurturing leader with energy, drive and a willingness to roll up your sleeves up and get stuck in.  You’re adept at building strong relationships with a diverse range of people and can confidently operate at all levels.

As someone who is passionate about our mahi and aligned to our guiding principles, you'll have a talent for identifying high value fundraising opportunities and can create compelling campaigns and cases for support that will uplift the tamariki and whānau we serve.   You’ll also have a commitment to working for and with Māori with an understanding and awareness of Te Ao Māori and the challenges faced by whānau across Aotearoa.

Why you’ll enjoy it here:
  • Our leadership team are passionate, driven and excited about Barnardos’ next phase of growth
  • Our people are invested in our vision and have huge pride in our mahi
  • Our office is centrally located in Tory Street, near Moore Wilsons, boutique eateries and shops
