The opportunity
Reporting to the Chief Executive and as a key member of our Executive Leadership team, your focus  will be to drive income growth and uplift the Barnardos brand and profile via compelling fundraising and marketing activity that moves hearts and minds.  With your drive and energetic approach, you’ll also enhance kotahitanga and lead our fundraising, communications and marketing functions so they are working together as one connected team.  This is a fantastic opportunity where you’ll be empowered to try new ideas and innovate, especially in generating fundraising revenue.

Day to day you’ll:
  • Create and deliver integration in fundraising, brand, marketing, communications, media engagement and organisational profile to achieve our strategic plan and goals
  • Provide strategic leadership, direction and coaching to your teams and contribute to the collective leadership of the Executive Leadership team
  • Ensure diverse and sustainable income streams across the range of fundraising opportunities including a focus on philanthropy, major donors and corporate sponsorship
  • Enhance the profile of Barnardos Aotearoa, Barnardos Early Learning and 0800 What’s Up brands, increasing recognition of our mahi to the public and our stakeholders
  • Influence systemic change for tamariki through the delivery of compelling and effective storytelling across all Barnardos communication channels and media
  • Drive engagement through communications that build pride and connection across our Barnardos whānau.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships internally and externally to enable delivery of outcomes, creative innovation and collaborative partnerships, both existing and new.
  • Show commitment to, and an understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and our Ngā Pou e Whā (Māori Strategy) in all that you do
  
About you:
As well as being passionate about our mahi and aligned to our guiding principles, you’ll be a senior leader with a demonstrated track record of success in fundraising and broad networks across the corporate and philanthropic sector.     

You’re adept at building strong relationships with a diverse range of people and are confident operating at all levels.  You’re known for lifting the energy of the people around you, with your positive can-do attitude and your exceptional people and communication skills that inspire, connect and achieve great outcomes.  You’ll enjoy bringing bold, creative concepts and ideas to the team and consistently seek to improve and innovate with your approach.  You have a commitment to working for and with Māori, with an understanding and awareness of Te Ao Māori and the challenges faced by whānau across Aotearoa.

Experience in managing marketing and communications functions is an advantage.
