Sales and Event Advisor - Tākina Exhibitions

A new position has been created within our busy Tākina Exhibitions Team, who are tasked with delivering successful major exhibition programmes in Tākina.

We are looking for an experienced Sales and Events Advisor to implement strategies to help drive sales and ensure events are successfully promoted and well attended.

Please note: This is a fixed term contract opportunity for approximately 12 months. This role is required for the next two major exhibitions being held at Tākina.

What you’ll do
Located in the iconic Michael Fowler Centre, this role reports to the Tākina Exhibitions Programme Manager.

As our Sales and Event Advisor you’ll be responsible for producing, managing and facilitating the smooth running of Tākina Exhibitions’ varied events programme. You’ll work closely with our marketing team to manage the promotion and selling of exhibition events, bringing creative ideas and strategies on how to attract sales.

While we know events can happen at all hours, this is predominantly a Monday-Friday role. Approximately once a month you may be required to attend an event outside of normal working hours.

Key responsibilities
  • Driving sales to meet the Tākina Exhibitions event programme’s commercial revenue targets.
  • Manage, plan, produce and deliver the successful and effective delivery of the Tākina Exhibitions events programme.
  • Build and maintain relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders (including Wellington City Council, Te Āti Awa, Zephyr café, event suppliers, funders and other partners).
  • Develop and maintain event plans, runsheets and budgets.
  • Collaborate with our marketing team to promote the Exhibition event programme.
  • Explore new event opportunities with key stakeholders.

About you
We think our new team member will bring the following:
  • Previous experience delivering events. There will be times when you’re juggling multiple projects and working to tight timeframes, so an experienced hand is needed.
  • A background in business development or sales, you’re a natural negotiator and have demonstrable experience getting deals across the line.
  • Excellent at relationship management and development through demonstrated selling skills.
  • Proactive and creative thinker, contributing to strategies to drive the sales pipeline.
  • Confident managing event budgets and financial planning.
  • Pride in your results, quality of work, customer centric and caring for your stakeholders, ensuring they receive the best experience.
  • Outstanding communication & organisation skills, able to communicate relevant information to people succinctly.
  • Comfortable with some ambiguity and embrace change.
  • An enjoyment for the events and performing arts sector in New Zealand.
  • Care and understanding of the needs of Māori in WellingtonNZ’s internal working environment and in the delivery of services to the Wellington community.
